Cat flap fitting in Glass Doors & Windows

Cat Flaps in Double-Glazed Doors

If your door has full glass or half-glass, we don’t cut the existing sealed unit – that would break the safety rating and cause condensation. Instead, we supply and fit a brand-new toughened double-glazed unit with a circular cut-out made at the factory.

This is the correct and safe method, and it keeps your insulation intact.

How the Glass Replacement Process Works

  1. We take exact measurements of your current glass
  2. A new toughened and sealed unit is made to match it
  3. The flap aperture is precision-cut in the factory
  4. We return to fit the new glass and cat flap

Lead time for glass manufacturing is usually 5–10 working days.

Microchip Cat Flaps

If you want only your cat to enter, we recommend a microchip-controlled flap.

We can supply and install models compatible with:

  • SureFlap
  • PetSafe
  • Cat Mate Selective Entry

We set it up and show you how to register your pet’s chip.

Manual Cat Flaps

For a simple and cost-effective option, we can also supply and fit standard manual cat flaps into replacement double-glazed units.

Available with basic 2-way or 4-way locking controls, manual cat flaps provide easy access for your cat without the need for batteries, microchip programming or electronic controls. They’re a reliable choice where selective entry isn’t required and can be professionally fitted into the new toughened glass unit for a neat, secure finish.

FAQs

Can a cat flap be installed in any type of door?

Cat flaps can be professionally installed into most types of doors, including uPVC doors, composite doors, wooden doors and glazed doors. They can also be fitted into suitable wall panels and other locations where a conventional door installation isn’t practical.

The installation method will depend on the construction and material of the door. At Coastal Cat Flaps, we assess the best position and fitting method to provide a neat, secure and professional cat flap installation while minimising disruption to the existing door.

Can you install a cat flap into double glazing?

Yes. We provide professional cat flap installation into double-glazed doors and windows. However, a hole cannot simply be cut into an existing toughened double-glazed unit, as this would cause the glass to shatter.

Instead, a new toughened double-glazed sealed unit is manufactured with the correctly sized hole incorporated during production. Once ready, the existing glass unit is removed and replaced with the new panel before the cat flap is professionally fitted. This provides a safe, neat and permanent solution without compromising the integrity of the glazing.

How long does cat flap installation take?

A straightforward cat flap installation into a uPVC, composite or wooden door can usually be completed during a single visit, with the fitting itself typically taking around one to two hours, depending on the door construction and type of cat flap being installed.

Installations into double glazing require additional preparation because a replacement sealed glass unit normally needs to be measured and manufactured before fitting. We can advise on the expected timescale when providing your quotation.

Do you fit dog flaps?

Yes. As well as specialist cat flap fitting, Coastal Cat Flaps also provides professional dog flap installation for suitable doors, panels and other locations.

Dog flaps are generally larger than cat flaps, so careful consideration needs to be given to the size and construction of the door and the appropriate flap for your dog. We can advise on a suitable installation and professionally fit the dog flap to provide your pet with convenient access to your home and garden.
